This is a rose that is knitted onto a knitted piece of work. I usually put the work down and work out where a rose would look pretty and poke my kneedle in there to pick up 3 stitches from the knitted work. I usually use a 3-4 mm needle depending on what yarn I use -say a 7 or 8 ply.ie you don’t want the stitches to be too loose and baggy because the rose won’t hold it’s shape but if you knit it too tight it can turn out like a hard little lump.
It is constructed with a central twisted bud and 3 surrounded twisted and rotated petals.
Then you can add outer leaves as you wish.
I often try to variegate the yarn as I knit the central bud and petals to add a natural variation to the appearance and make it more natural and less matt.
Foundation row: Pick up 3 Sts from knitted work.
Rows 1-3: K3, turn P3, turnK1 front and back of stitch (which makes one or M1), K1 front and back...5 sts in total turn.
Row 4: P5.
Row 5-14: Knit 10 rows stockinette.
Now, holding needle up twist the knitting 360ยบ clockwise and knit in 5 sticthes to base of 3 foundation stitches.
