Beach for a Baby Boy

My best friend is having a baby boy. They live in Tasmania near some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The baby will be born at the begining of winter and that time of the year the water is cold and the brightest blue you ever did see.
They both love to surf so...These are the kind of colours I chose.

Basket of Wool
My basket of ocean colourway.

The idea started as the ocean, then I decided to bring in the shore line and the waves, and if I was lucky, maybe throw in a few sea shells.
When thinking about the design I wanted the blanket to be light but have a sense of up and down movement -like a real ocean.

I turned to my trusty ideas book.

I thought I might try and constuct a series of tubes?

The exact pattern is difficult to describe  and I will annotate it for a later newsletter (so  join the mailing list).
Tubes running the width of the blanket
The tubes run the width of the blanket.
But this is how it looked when I finished it!

It's in the post, on its way to my friend, the baby is due in 3 weeks.
